As an American, I’ve always shared the fascination that many of us do with our neighbors to the north. I’ve been to Canada countless times and, even as a self-professed mountain and nature snob from growing up in Colorado, it never fails to wow me all over again! Beautiful national parks, epic mountain views, and gorgeous lakes all work together in making Canada so picturesque.
My favorite location in Canada is easily Tofino, along the western coast of Vancouver Island. This is one of my favorite beach spots in the world and the sunsets here are absolutely unreal. Picture thick forests, rocky outcroppings in the sea, and a super charming beach town.
But Canada is the second largest country in the world and there is so much more to explore here than just the far-west coast! I’ve included 30+ spots below from my personal picks as a starting point for you.
Don’t have time to wade through 30 options right now? No worries! I’ve put together a searchable location database for you below stocked with 900+ spots that you can filter through depending on what scenery, activities, or season you want. Click here to get started exploring it!
Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

There’s a reason Banff is the poster child for the Canadian Rockies – it’s just that ridiculously good-looking. Towering mountains, turquoise lakes, pine forests so thick you could get lost in them, and those alpine meadows that feel like they were made for saying vows. Whether you’re jumping in a hot spring, taking a drive up Icefields Parkway, or hiking to a quiet viewpoint, Banff has this magical way of making everything feel bigger, quieter, and somehow more real. For a “just the two of us” kind of day, Banff will give you the space to breathe whilst still checking one of Canada’s heavy-hitters off your bucket list.
Best for: Mountains, Forest, Alpine Lakes, Glaciers, Hot Springs, Rivers and Wildflowers
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Camping, Boating, Kayaking and Helicopters
Tofino, Vancouver Island, Canada

If you want your elopement to have beach bonfire vibes, but with an epic backdrop, Tofino is your answer. Here, you’ve got long stretches of wild coastline, crashing waves, and misty rainforests that make every corner feel cinematic. One minute you’re wandering through giant cedar groves, the next you’re barefoot in tidepools watching the sun sink behind surfers. And the vibe here is ultra chill. It’s a barefoot-on-the-beach, no-rush, wedding-rolls-right-into-honeymoon kind of place.
Best for: Mountains, Forest, Coast, Island, Beach
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating, Helicopter
Jasper National Park, Canada

Jasper is the kind of place that makes you feel tiny in the best way possible, serving up some of the wildest backdrops you’ll find in the Rockies. Athabasca Glacier is one of the few you can actually walk on, either by foot or on one of those massive ice explorer vehicles that look like they belong on Mars. Plus, the Columbia Icefield Skywalk nearby gives you glass-bottomed views straight into the valley below (maybe skip this one if you have a fear of heights, though!). This national park is no doubt one of Canada’s best, both jaw-dropping and surprisingly accessible, making it a win-win for a no-stress but all-out elopement day.
Best for: Mountains, Forest, River, Glaciers, Wildflowers, Alpine Lakes
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Stargazing, Hiking, Jeep/4×4, Kayaking, Camping, Boating
Selkirk Mountains, Canada

Tucked just west of the Canadian Rockies, the Selkirk Mountains are like Banff’s cooler, quieter cousin. You still get jagged peaks, alpine lakes, and moody forests, but without the tour buses and elbow-to-elbow crowds. This is the zone for couples who want raw beauty without the buzz. One of my favorite spots here is Valhalla Provincial Park, home to wildflower meadows that don’t even look real, with Goat Range Provincial Park coming in a close second. It’s possible you’ll even get the trail here entirely to yourselves! This part of the country feels like you’ve found a secret slice of Canada no one else knows about.
Best for: Mountains, Alpine Lakes
Best months to get married here: July to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking
Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada

Yoho flies a little more under the radar than Banff, but that’s what makes it so great. You’ve got waterfalls that feel like they go on forever (looking at you, Takakkaw), electric blue lakes like Emerald and O’Hara, and mountain trails that feel untouched. The name “Yoho” literally comes from a Cree expression of awe – and honestly, that tracks. It’s wild, with that untamed Canadian energy that makes everything feel a bit more adventurous. If you want stunning views without the traffic jams, Yoho delivers big.
Best for: Forest, Waterfall, Lakes and Mountains
Best months to get married here: July to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Kayaking
Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada

Lake Louise is the drama queen of the Rockies, and you’ll understand why I say this as soon as you feat your eyes on it. It’s iconic for a reason: that electric turquoise water, the mountains rising straight up behind it, the glacier that looks like a backdrop from a polar exploration movie. It’s busy in summer, but if you plan it right (or brave the shoulder seasons), you can catch it at its quietest and most surreal. Take a canoe out after your ceremony or hike to one of the tea houses if you’re feeling extra for that extra splash of magic.
Best for: Mountains, Forest and Alpine Lake
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Kayaking
Lake Minnewanka, Banff, Canada

Don’t let the tourist crowds at Lake Louise fool you – Minnewanka is where the locals go. Just 15 minutes from Banff town, this huge glacial lake is ringed by mountains and pine forest, with Mount Costigan looming dramatically in the background. The vibe here feels big and wild but still easy to access, which makes it ideal for an elopement that doesn’t skimp on views but isn’t a logistical nightmare. Paddle out in a canoe, hop on a sunset boat cruise, or (if you’re brave) come in winter and skate on the frozen lake with nothing but peaks around you. Pretty hard to top!
Best for: Mountains, Forest and Alpine Lake
Best months to get married here: July to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Kayaking and Boating
Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Eloping at Niagara Falls is a legit power move. Horseshoe Falls on the Canadian side is absolutely roaring, and you can catch the mist (and maybe a rainbow!) from the platforms, boat tours, or even from your hotel window. There’s something wildly romantic about saying your vows next to that much water crashing down beside you. Bonus: once the sun sets, the falls get lit up in colour – and if you’re there on the right night, there might even be fireworks. Go full classic or find a tucked-away overlook nearby for something a little more private, and leave with memories of the most epic elopement imaginable.
Best for: Waterfall
Best months to get married here: May to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating
Moraine Lake, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

Yes, you’ve seen it in a thousand photos, but nothing prepares you for seeing Moraine Lake in person. The color doesn’t look real (it is), and the backdrop of ten jagged peaks makes it feel like you’ve wandered onto the set of The Sound of Music – but you haven’t left North America! Paddle a canoe, climb the Rockpile for that iconic overlook, or just hang by the shore with your person and soak it in, glass of champagne in hand. The lake’s only open seasonally and access is limited now to shuttle or bike, which means fewer crowds and more peace. If you want to stay close, the 4-star Moraine Lake Lodge gives you front-row views and mountain-lodge vibes.
Best for: Mountains, Forest and Alpine Lake
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Kayaking and Rock Climbing
The Okanagan, British Columbia, Canada

If Banff is the rugged mountain elopement, the Okanagan is her sun-soaked, wine-drunk sister. Home to rolling vineyards, lake views for days, warm weather (well, by Canadian standards…), and golden hour that hits just right. This is BC’s wine country, so it’s perfect for a relaxed elopement that ends in a tasting flight and a ridiculously good meal. Base yourselves in Kelowna or Penticton, rent a lakeside cabin, and choose your view: orchards, beaches, hills, or all three at once.
Best for: Mountains, Forest, Waterfalls, Vineyards, Lake and Wildflowers
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating, Kayaking, Camping and Rock Climbing
Kananaskis, Alberta, Canada

Banff’s cooler, quieter alternative, Kananaskis is where you go when you want all the Rocky Mountain drama but none of the tour bus crowds. There’s something seriously special about this place. Maybe it’s the rugged trails that still feel wild, or the way the peaks just tower out of nowhere… or maybe there’s just a little bit of magic in the air! There’s tons of sparkling lakes, epic hiking, and cozy backcountry lodges that feel like your own private hideaway. You can even spot moose if you’re lucky!
Best for: Mountains, Forest, Rivers and Alpine Lakes
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Camping and Kayaking
Whistler, British Columbia, Canada

Whistler is one of those rare places where you can snowboard in the morning and paddleboard by afternoon. It’s a resort town, yeah, but it’s got a playful, down-to-earth energy that makes it feel accessible no matter your vibe. Gondolas can whisk you up to alpine lakes, and the trails wind through pine forests and glacier-fed rivers that’ll have you saying “wow” every 5 seconds. So, what’ll it be? Post-ceremony spa time? Après-everything drinks? The possibilities here are endless! Bonus: Whistler is only a two-hour drive from Vancouver but feels like its own mountain planet.
Best for: River, Forest, Mountains and Lakes
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Kayaking
Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada

If you’re all about road trips, Cape Breton is peak elopement road trip material. The Cabot Trail wraps around the island with lookout points, cliffside hikes, and plenty of spots to pull over and say “I do” on a whim. Cape Breton has a strong Gaelic heritage, and you’ll find traditional fiddles playing at local ceilidhs (yes, that’s a thing here), Acadian villages serving up home-cooked lobster, and storytellers who’ll make you feel like you’ve stepped into a folktale. Perfect for an elopement that feels far further away from home than it is!
Best for: Island, Music, Forest and Coast
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking and Ceilidh’s
Kootenay National Park, British Columbia, Canada

Kootenay flies under the radar, which is wild considering how much it’s got going on. You’ve got canyons, waterfalls, hot springs, red-streaked mountains, and quiet trails that feel like your own private adventure. Marble Canyon is super cool for photos, and the hike to Floe Lake is 100% worth working up a sweat for, and will take you even further off the beaten path. It’s right next to Banff, so you still get those alpine vibes, but with a whole lot more breathing room. Who could argue with that?
Best for: River, Canyons, Waterfalls, Mountains and Hot Springs
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Camping and Kayaking
Emerald Lake, Yoho National Park, British Columbia, Canada

If you’re after a lake that looks like it’s been photoshopped… meet Emerald Lake. The color is wild, like a highlighter fell into glacier melt, and it changes with the light, which makes your elopement photos pop. What’s even better? It’s not as hectic as some of the other lakes nearby. There’s a cute lodge right on the water where you can wake up to still reflections and end the day with a wine by the fire, plus you can rent a canoe, walk the lakeside trail, or just chill in your wedding gear with mountain views all around.
Best for: Mountains, Forest and that lake!
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Kayaking, Paddleboarding and Canoeing
Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland, Canada

Gros Morne doesn’t look like the rest of Canada – it looks like something from a too-good-to-be-true travel brochure – but it’s all real! With fjords, cliffs, and crazy rock formations created by tectonic plate collisions, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site for a reason. One minute you’re standing at the edge of a freshwater fjord, the next you’re on a windswept cliff with nothing but the Atlantic beyond. It’s remote, and full of East Coast charm. If your idea of romance includes raw landscapes, quiet trails, and maybe even a puffin sighting, this is your place.
Best for: Coast, Mountains, Forest and Fjords
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating, Kayaking
Torngat Mountains, Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada

Torngat is as off-grid as it gets in Canada. There are no roads, no towns, and no cell service – just sheer cliffs, glacial valleys, polar bears, and fjords carved by ice! For couples wanting an elopement that feels like a true expedition, this is it, no doubt about it. You’ll need to take a charter flight into the park, but the remoteness is the reward waiting for you on the other side. Plus, you’ll be walking on land that’s culturally and spiritually important to the Inuit, who help manage the park and offer guided experiences that’ll give your trip real meaning.
Best for: Mountains, Coast and Lakes
Best months to get married here: June to August
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Seaplane
Canmore, Alberta, Canada

Canmore is one of those rare places that hits the sweet spot between wild and welcoming. It’s got jaw-dropping peaks in every direction, endless hiking trails right from town, and a chill, creative energy that makes it feel more lived-in than touristy. The downtown is packed with cool little cafés, breweries, and local art shops, great for living your best hipster life and winding down after a big day outside. Plus, because you’re not inside a national park boundary, you’ve got way more flexibility for your elopement plans, and the photos we can capture of it!
Best for: Mountains, Town, Lakes and River
Best months to get married here: June to September
Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta, Canada

Waterton doesn’t try to be trendy. It’s got that old-school charm that’s cooler than any curated Instagram feed. The town feels like it’s been frozen in time, and the Prince of Wales Hotel looming over the lake is the kind of place where you could sit and simply look out at your surroundings for hours. It’s here that the Rockies crash into the prairie, leaving you with peaks that mean business in one direction and wide-open golden fields in the other, like two worlds colliding. Perfect if you’re after something a little offbeat but still drop-dead gorgeous.
Best for: Mountains, Forest and Lakes
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Kayaking
Cathedral Grove, MacMillan Provincial Park, Vancouver Island

Ever wanted to get married in a place that feels like time stopped? Cathedral Grove has that vibe. These trees are huge – we’re talking 800 years old, towering redwoods and Douglas firs with trunks wider than your rental car. The light filters through in streaks, it smells like moss and cedar, and there’s just this hush that settles over everything. It’s a short walk from the parking area, but it feels like you’ve wandered deep into another world. No frills, no fuss, just nature doing her thing and you, saying your vows in the middle of it.
Best for: Forest
Best months to get married here: May to October
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking
Peyto Lake, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada

You’ve probably seen this one pop up on your Instagram feed – it’s the lake shaped like a wolf’s head, and yes, it’s as cool as it sounds. What makes Peyto special isn’t just the shape or the glacier-fed neon blue color of the water, though – it’s how quick it is to access. You don’t need to hike hours to get a mind-blowing view – just a short trail from the parking lot and boom: ceremony-ready. It’s high up, usually quiet in the early morning, and full-on cinematic no matter the weather.
Best for: Mountains, Forest and Alpine Lake
Best months to get married here: May to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking
Prince Edward Island, Canada

PEI’s charm is in the little things: red sand beaches, gently rolling farmland, lighthouses, and quiet coastal roads made for slow scenic drives. It’s a place where life moves at a softer pace, making it perfect for couples who want a peaceful, no-stress elopement by the sea. Visit in the summer for wildflowers and fresh seafood (you haven’t had mussels until you’ve had them here). The island’s literary claim to fame, Anne of Green Gables, is just icing on the cake for the pure storybook vibes the island delivers on.
Best for: Island, Red Beaches and Seafood
Best months to get married here: June to August
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Kayaking and Boating (and eating seafood!)
Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia, Canada

Rolling hills, apple orchards, and vineyard after vineyard after vineyard, we’re carrying on with the wine theme, but this time, over at Annapolis Valley. This place brings big autumn energy but looks good year-round. Oh, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that it’s set right on the coast! Imagine a low-key, countryside elopement with views of the Bay of Fundy and post-ceremony wine tastings with local charcuterie. Yum! It’s also one of the best places in Canada to catch the fall colors (without the crowds), and you’re never far from a cozy inn or historic village to make your stay extra charming.
Best for: Hills, Forest and Vineyards
Best months to get married here: June to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking & Wine Tasting
Joffre Lakes Park, British Columbia, Canada

Joffre Lakes is basically showing off, with not one, but three ridiculously blue glacier-fed lakes stacked along a single trail. The hike’s a bit of a climb, but each stop along the way is a total scene-stealer. Think mirror-clear water, jagged icefields, and plenty of spots that’ll make you stop and go wait, this is real? It’s a solid pick if you want your elopement day to include a little adventure, a lot of views, and maybe a few high-fives from passing hikers when they see you in your wedding gear.
Best for: Mountains, Forest, River, Lakes and Glaciers
Best months to get married here: May to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking
Kluane National Park, Yukon Territory, Canada

Kluane is next-level wilderness. This place is home to Mount Logan (Canada’s tallest peak), glaciers that go on for days, and some of the best chances to spot wildlife in the country. Eloping here means choosing somewhere totally remote and awe-inspiring, so lean into it and head out on a flightseeing tour over the icefields, hike to a hidden alpine lake, or just stand still and soak it all in, moment by moment. It’s not the easiest place to get to, but that’s part of the magic – this park stays quiet, wild, and seriously untouched.
Best for: Mountains, Forest, Alpine Lakes, River and Glaciers
Best months to get married here: June to August
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Jeep/4×4
Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada

This is wine country with a Victorian twist. Niagara-on-the-Lake is about slow strolls, vineyard views, and 19th-century architecture that makes you feel like you time traveled into a romance novel. It’s way less touristy than the big falls (though those are just down the road), and it’s got all the good stuff: farm-to-table dining, lakeside parks, boutique inns, and wine tastings that feel like a mini honeymoon built into your elopement day.
Best for: Coast and City
Best months to get married here: May to September
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking
Auyuittuq National Park, Nunavut, Canada

Up in the Arctic Circle, you won’t find Auyuittuq on many “top elopement destinations” lists, but i you’re dreaming big, this one’s unforgettable. The name means “the land that never melts”, and it’s as rugged and raw as it sounds: glaciers, fjords, ice fields, and towering granite cliffs, and ice, ice, everywhere! There are no roads here – you’ll fly into Pangnirtung and either hike or take a snowmobile depending on the season. The payoff is utter solitude, landscapes that feel otherworldly, and the chance to get married somewhere most people will never see.
Best for: Mountains, Coast, Fjords and Glaciers
Best months to get married here: July and August
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking
Clayoquot Sound, British Columbia, Canada

If you’re into the whole “get married in the middle of nowhere” vibe, but still want a comfy bed to crawl into and a hot shower to unwind under at the end of the day, Clayoquot Sound has you covered. It’s tucked away on Vancouver Island’s wild west coast, with rainforest that feels straight out of a movie and beaches that go on forever. You can paddle out in a kayak, spot whales from the shore, or just soak it all in from a cozy eco-lodge in the woods during your elopement. It’s remote in the best way, and perfect for couples who want to escape to somewhere that feels like a secret.
Best for: Forest, Coast and Beaches
Best months to get married here: June to August
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating and Kayaking
South Shore, Nova Scotia, Canada

This stretch of coast is classic East Coast vibes, dotted with lighthouses, little harbors, and towns like Lunenburg – home to UNESCO World Heritage status and some of the brightest buildings you’ve ever seen. The South Shore is great if you want an elopement with sea views and strong maritime vibes without things feeling too overdone. Get married on the rocks at Peggy’s Cove or down on a windswept beach, then feast on fresh-caught seafood while the waves crash in the distance.
Best for: Coast
Best months to get married here: June to August
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking
Nahanni National Park Reserve, Northwest Territories, Canada

If you’re after a “main character in a wilderness movie” vibe, Nahanni is where you’ll find it. This remote national park is home to epic canyons, hot springs, eyebrow-raising mountain peaks, and one of the most iconic waterfalls in Canada: Virginia Falls. It’s twice the height of Niagara! The park is only accessible by floatplane, which ups the adventure factor (and the bragging rights). There’s no cell service, no crowds, and no chance of forgetting this place.
Best for: Mountains, Forest, River, Canyon, Waterfalls and Hot Springs
Best months to get married here: June to August
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Kayaking
Abraham Lake, Alberta, Canada

Abraham Lake might be man-made, but it brings the drama like no other. Its turquoise waters are stunning year-round, but winter is when it really shows off, thanks to trapped methane bubbles that freeze into wild patterns under the surface. It’s a surreal and seriously photogenic backdrop for a winter elopement. The surrounding area has killer mountain views, and it’s far enough from the usual Banff crowds to feel like you’ve got the place to yourself. Pro tip: go in January or February for the best bubble views. Just dress warm – this place gets seriously chilly!
Best for: Mountains and that (sometimes) frozen Lake
Best months to get married here: June to August and December to February
My favorite activities to do here: Hiking
Montmorency Falls, Québec, Canada

Just 15 minutes outside of Québec City, Montmorency Falls is like Niagara’s cool Francophone cousin – just as tall (actually taller), way less crowded, and full of Québec’s je ne sais quoi. The falls drop 272 feet, and you can walk right over them via a suspension bridge or catch views from the base. The surrounding park has trails, stairs, and viewpoints galore, so you’ve got options upon options for your ceremony spot. In the winter, the mist creates a giant ice cone at the base, which is weird and awesome. It’s easy to access, incredibly photogenic, and close to amazing post-elopement food in the city.
Best for: River, Forest, City and Waterfall
Best months to get married here: May to September
