The 16 Most Beautiful & Unique Locations to Elope in Croatia

Sandwiched in between Italy and Greece, Croatia has some absolutely breathtaking natural sights that are frequently overlooked in favor of larger cities nearby. But that just means that you can get all the beauty of the Mediterranean region with way fewer crowds! I’ve been photographing elopements in this region since 2018, and I can tell you with confidence that Croatia should be on your list!

By far the most popular spot in Croatia is Plitvice National park, known for cascading pools, 16 lakes, and bright teal bodies of water. If you’re looking for storybook vibes and lots of waterfalls, you’ll be happy with the 90+ that are here in this park alone!

But there’s so much more to Croatia than just the national parks. Keep reading for some of my favorite beaches, cities, and other stand-out elopement day stops along the Adriatic Sea!

Or if you’re looking for something outside the region, you can always visit my interactive map with 600+ of my handpicked locations for elopements around the world! It includes filters so you can narrow down by only what’s perfect for you.

Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

A serene scene of a wooden walkway winding through a lush green forest beside clear turquoise waters and cascading waterfalls. Sunlight filters through the trees, illuminating the vibrant natural landscape.

Plitvice is Croatia’s oldest and most famous national park, is UNESCO listed, and sooooo beautiful! It’s basically a network of turquoise lakes and waterfalls layered through lush forest, with wooden boardwalks winding across crystal-clear pools and mist rising off the falls in the morning light. For your elopement, start early before the crowds, pick a quiet viewpoint, and let the sound of cascading water be your soundtrack. To level it up, pack a picnic, hike out to a remote corner, and toast with bubbles by the lake. Total dream.

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Aerial view of a coastal town in Dubrovnik, Croatia, with numerous orange-roofed buildings and historic stone walls extending into the sea, surrounding a harbor filled with boats. The town is bordered by the Adriatic Sea, with hills in the background and a cloudy sky above.

The massive stone walls, medieval alleyways, and endless Adriatic views of Dubrovnik are unmatched, plain and simple. Skip the tourist-packed spots and head to the quieter cliffs just outside the old town, or charter a boat for a vows-at-sea moment with the city skyline behind you for the ultimate sun-soaked ceremony. Afterward, celebrate like a local – oysters and white wine at a seaside konoba, then dancing under the stars at one of the city’s tucked-away bars.

Best for: Coast, Medieval City

Best months to get married here:

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating

Hvar, Croatia

A picturesque coastal town in Hvar, Croatia, with boats docked in the clear waters of a marina. The town is nestled against a hillside covered in trees, featuring a mix of colorful buildings with terracotta roofs and a large historic fortress overlooking the harbor.

In Hvar, you’ve got elopement options for days. How about barefoot on a hidden cove, inside an ancient stone church, or standing on a lavender-covered hillside with the scent of summer in the air? If privacy is the goal, sail off to the nearby Pakleni Islands and claim a slice of untouched paradise just for yourselves. Post-vows, the island’s luxury meets laid-back vibe means you can go full yacht-party mode or keep things quiet with sunset drinks at a vineyard. Either way, an elopement here is all effortless, golden, and drenched in sea air.

Best for: Coast, City, Islands

Best months to get married here:
April to September

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Paddleboarding, Boating

Zlatni Rat / Golden Horn Beach, Croatia

A narrow, sandy beach stretches into turquoise-blue water, curving into the sea. Green hills and rocky mountains rise in the background under a partly cloudy sky. People walk along the shoreline.

Zlatni Rat is that classic “you’ve definitely seen this on Pinterest” beach – and it lives up to the hype. The shape shifts depending on wind and tide, which is cool in and of itself, but the clear water and smooth pebbles are constant. There’s a breezy, barefoot feel to getting married here, like the kind of day where you swim before the ceremony and dry off in the sun. Bonus: there’s windsurfing, paddleboarding, and pine forest shade nearby, so it’s super easy to make a whole day of it without needing to overplan.

Best for: Forest, Beach

Best months to get married here:
May to September

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Kayaking

Zadar, Croatia

A quiet, sunlit cobblestone street lined with colorful buildings leads to a historic stone archway and old city wall in the distance. The scene is peaceful and empty.

Elope to Zadar for the history, but end up staying because the whole place just feels easy. You’ve got Roman ruins, modern art installations powered by the sea, and the kind of sunsets that stop you mid-sentence. It’s not showy like Dubrovnik. Instead, Zadar gives you the city-meets-sea vibe without the crush of people and the swarm of selfie sticks. For sailing couples, it’s also solid launch point to the Zadar Archipelago. You can hop between sleepy islands, find your own ceremony spot, and still be back in town in time for octopus salad and chilled wine by the water.

Best for: Coast, Historic City

Best months to get married here:
May to October

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating

Krka National Park, Croatia

A scenic waterfall cascades over rocky ledges into a clear turquoise river, surrounded by lush green trees and vegetation under a bright blue sky.

If the idea of a waterfall elopement is calling your name, Krka is the kind of place that’ll have you answering with a big YES. The park is famous for its emerald-green pools and wide, cascading falls, but, fair warning: in summer the main parts of the park get suuuper busy, so if you’re eloping in June, July or August get here super early or for sunset. Tie the knot in a quiet clearing or near a wooden bridge over glassy water, then spend the rest of your time here hiking or simply staring open-mouthed at the gorgeousness all around you.

Best for: Forest, Lakes, River, Waterfalls

Best months to get married here:
May to October

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking

Kornati National Park, Croatia

Sailing through the Kornati Islands has got to be one of the most how-is-this-even-real options for a Croatian elopement. It’s a jagged, sun-bleached archipelago made for boat days. Most of the park is only accessible by water, which keeps things quiet, exclusive, and kinda surreal. Say your vows on the deck with layers of uninhabited islands in the background, then drop anchor and snorkel, float, or just be. This one’s for couples who want to disappear into nature and come back salty, sun-kissed, and grinning.

Best for: Forest, Coast, Islands

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating

Split, Croatia

A scenic view of Split, Croatia, showcasing the red-tiled rooftops of the city, the prominent bell tower of the Cathedral of Saint Domnius, waterfront palm trees, and a backdrop of mountains under a partly cloudy sky. Trees frame the foreground.

Split gives you so many options, a place ancient history and beach-town energy collide in the most head-spinning way possible. One minute, you’re wandering through a literal Roman palace, and the next, you’re sipping cocktails by the sea. If you want a wedding backdrop with serious “wow” factor, say your vows inside the UNESCO-listed Diocletian’s Palace, where 1,700-year-old stone walls and hidden courtyards set the scene. Prefer a seaside elopement? No problem – head to the Marjan Forest Park cliffs for unreal Adriatic views without the crowds. Afterward, hop on a boat to the nearby islands, or just stroll the Riva, gelato in hand, soaking in that salty sea air.

Best for: City, Coast, Palace

May to September

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating, Kayaking

Dubovica Beach, Croatia

A small, secluded beach with clear turquoise water, pebbled shore, and historic stone buildings surrounded by green shrubs on a hillside under a clear blue sky.

Tucked away on Hvar Island, Dubovica feels like a secret you stumbled on by accident – and those are always the best kind. You’ll need to walk a bit from the road to get here, but it’s worth every step. Bring a bottle of something cold, say your vows by the shore, and then float in the sea like you’ve got nowhere else to be. It’s small and stony, and it’s so pretty, with a 17th-century stone house right on the cove, water that glows like a gemstone, and cliffs that catch the golden light perfectly.

Best for: Coast, Beach

Best months to get married here:
May to October

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Paddleboarding

Istria, Croatia

A serene coastal scene in Istria, Croatia, featuring clear turquoise waters, rocky shores, and lush green trees under a bright blue sky. The rocky coastline gently slopes into the calm sea, with verdant vegetation enhancing the natural beauty of the tranquil landscape.

Croatia isn’t all about the beaches. In fact, one day in Istria will have you forgetting all about the coastline. How does it sound to exchange vows inside an ancient amphitheater in Pula, on a clifftop in Rovinj, or at a secluded vineyard where the only witnesses are cypress trees and the occasional wandering cat? Here, the post-wedding meal is just as important as the ceremony – truffle pasta and world-class local wine, all served in candlelit courtyards that feel stolen from a past century. Istria is slow, scenic, and wildly romantic. Need I say more?

Best for: Mountains, Forest, Cities

Best months to get married here:
May to September

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Camping

Paklenica National Park, Croatia

Rocky mountain cliffs rise steeply above a dense forest of green and yellow trees under a clear blue sky.

Here’s something a little bit different: if you’re drawn to cliffs over coastlines and prefer boots to sandals, Paklenica’s your place. Tucked into the Velebit Mountains, this park is all about dramatic canyons, shaded trails, and seriously cool limestone formations. It’s popular with climbers, but even if you’re not scaling anything, there are mellow paths that wind through forests and along streams, perfect for a quiet elopement away from it all.

Best for: Canyons, Cliffs, Mountains

Best months to get married here:
April to October

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Rock Climbing

Korčula, Croatia

A large stone fortress wall stands by clear turquoise water with rocky edges, under a blue sky with wispy clouds. Green trees and mountains rise in the background.

Korčula has this golden-hour glow about it: walled town, vineyard-covered hills, and quiet coves that feel like they were made for eloping. It’s got all the hallmarks of a classic Croatian island, but way fewer people and a stronger local feel. You can rent a little motorboat, sail around the island, and pull in at a random beach to get married. Then have wine from the vineyard up the road and dinner in town where everyone’s casually dressed but the food is still top tier. It just works!

Best for: Coast, Island, Vineyards, Walled Town

Best months to get married here:
May to October

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating

Mljet National Park, Croatia

Mljet is Croatia’s “do not disturb” island. It’s where you go to swap inbox pings for cicadas, skip the party crowds, and finally breathe properly. Most of the island is national park, with winding biking paths, glassy saltwater lakes, and views that hit you like a deep sigh. I love it for couples who want to keep things quiet and meaningful with morning swims, an elopement under Aleppo pines, and a lazy lunch of local goat cheese and white wine in a tiny konoba.

Best for: Lakes, Forest, Coast, Island

Best months to get married here:
May to October

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating, Kayaking

Pula, Croatia

If you want Roman ruins and rocky beaches and boat days, Pula has you covered. There’s a full-blown amphitheatre right in the middle of town, and just outside it are hidden coves, limestone cliffs, and that ridiculously clear Adriatic water. This is a great spot for couples who want something a little offbeat and more authentically Croatian, with easy access to boat rentals so you can turn your day into a beach-hopping adventure!

Best for: Coast, City, Roman Ruins

Best months to get married here:
May to September

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating

Brijuni National Park, Croatia

Aerial view of a small wooded peninsula surrounded by clear blue-green water, with a rocky shoreline and an adjacent dry, grassy field.

Brijuni is a little fancier, a little wilder, and a lot more surprising than you’d expect. It’s a group of islands just off the Istrian coast, and it has everything from Roman ruins to free-roaming peacocks to an old safari park. The vibe is very “elegant elopement with some weird and wonderful touches.” There are gorgeous villas for staying over, and boats run regularly from the mainland, so it’s easy to pull off something low-stress but still totally one-of-a-kind.

Best for: Forest, Coast, Islands

Best months to get married here:
May to October

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating, Kayaking

Trogir, Croatia

View through an open stone archway with large wooden doors, looking out onto a sunny waterfront with boats, colorful buildings, and a hill with houses under a clear blue sky.

Trogir is like someone shrunk down all the best bits of Croatia and packed them into one pocket-sized coastal town, with winding alleys, hidden courtyards, and medieval stone buildings with that soft, sun-worn look. It’s got charm for days, and it’s super close to the city of Split, so you won’t have to trek to get here. I love it as a base for boat days – there are so many nearby tiny islands to explore, and the whole place feels low-key but still special. Say your vows on a boat, then wander back through town for gelato and sunset photos along the Riva. Perfect!

Best for: Town, Coast, Nearby Islands

Best months to get married here:
May to October
