15 Stunning Locations & Things to Do for a Greenland Elopement

I LOVE Greenland so much. I’ve been to every continent, and this is by far the most like Antarctica. Honestly, I actually like it better! The glacial ice here is peak and way more accessible than it is in Antarctica. If you want to get up close with some of the most impressive glaciers and icebergs on Earth, you’ll find everything you want here and more.

As an elopement location, the Ilulissat Icefjord cannot be overhyped. You and your partner will be north of the Arctic Circle, surrounded by ice chunks the size of apartment buildings (literally!), all shining different shades in the midnight sun. I can’t recommend it enough!

Greenland is a massive country, though, and has a lot to offer, so read on for more of my picks! They involve sheets of ice that are truly unfathomably big, great towns to visit, and even valleys of flowers.

Psst! Did you know that I also made you a searchable map with 600+ locations in it? Click here to be taken right to it!

Ilulissat Icefjord, Ilulissat, Greenland

A couple in wedding attire stands on rocky terrain against a backdrop of icy waters and icebergs. The bride's long veil flows over the rocks, creating a dramatic scene amid the frozen landscape.

Ilulissat Icefjord is where ice and water collide in the most spectacular way. Massive icebergs, freshly calved from the Sermeq Kujalleq glacier – one of the fastest-moving glaciers on the planet, crack and groan as they slowly make their way to the Atlantic. The ice comes in every shade imaginable – blinding white, deep blue, and even streaked with volcanic ash from past eruptions, and these chunks are MASSIVE (like, 3,000 feet tall!). Boat tours take you right into the maze of floating ice, while seals bob between the bergs and occasionally swim up to say hello. When the midnight sun hits the ice, turning it shades of pink and gold, there’s nowhere else like it.

Best for: Coast, Glaciers and Icebergs!

Nuuk Icefjord, Nuuk, Greenland

A serene coastal town at dusk, with scattered buildings and icy water in the foreground. Majestic mountains rise in the background, silhouetted against a fading sunset sky, transitioning from orange to deep blue in Nuuk, Greenland.

Just outside the country’s capital, this fabulous icefjord is packed with towering icebergs that glow electric blue under the Arctic sun. Epic! Getting here is an adventure, with most trips starting with a boat ride through the fjord followed by a hike along the rugged coastline. However, this is your elopement, so nothing is too much! If you’re feeling extra, you can take a helicopter straight to the action. With trip options ranging from quick excursions to all-day explorations, it’s easy to fit into any elopement itinerary. However long you opt for, watching the sunlight gleam off these massive ice formations never gets old.

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating and Helicopter

Tasiilaq, Greenland

A white wooden sled is positioned on a hill overlooking a coastal village with colorful houses in Tasiilaq, Greenland. Snow-capped mountains and an icy body of water form the background under a clear sky.

There are no easy ways to get to Tasiilaq, but that’s exactly why getting here feels so awe-inspiring. Wedged between icy fjords and razor-sharp peaks, this town is a dream spot for adventurers year-round. In summer, you can kayak through iceberg alleyways, hike into Flower Valley where bright Arctic wildflowers pop against the rock, or just sit back and watch chunks of ice drift lazily past. Winter, though, is when things get to next-level, with dog sleds carving through the snow and the northern lights swirl so brightly overhead they turn the whole sky electric. Warning: you’ll never want to leave.

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating, Kayaking

Ilulissat, Greenland

Aerial view of a small boat navigating through icy waters with large chunks of ice surrounding it. The boat is positioned between rocky cliffs, and passengers are visible on its deck. The scene is cold and rugged.

If there’s one place that sums up Greenland’s ice obsession, it’s Ilulissat. Sitting right next to the Ilulissat Icefjord (aka the birthplace of some of the biggest icebergs on the planet) this town is surrounded by frozen giants that constantly shift, groan, and crack as they drift out to sea. Boat trips take you right up to the action, but even just walking along the coastal boardwalk gives you VIP-views to one of the most spectacular natural shows on Earth. Add in some of the best dog sledding, hiking, and northern lights viewing in Greenland, and it’s no surprise this place is an Arctic icon.

Kangerlussuaq, Greenland

Aerial view of a vast glacier in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, extending into the mountainous landscape. The glacier's icy surface contrasts with the brown, rocky terrain surrounding it. Meltwater from the glacier forms a river that winds through the landscape, creating pools of murky water.

Most places have roads that lead somewhere… Kangerlussuaq has one that dead-ends at the world’s second-largest ice sheet, and honestly, that tells you everything you need to know. This massive ice sheet (and when I say massive I mean three times the size of Texas) is an endless frozen expanse that stretches beyond the horizon, and yeah, you can actually walk on it! Getting there involves a white-knuckle 4WD tour rumbling across the tundra, past musk oxen that look straight out of the Ice Age. Visit in the winter, and you’ll be rewarded with some of the best northern lights shows on the planet.

Best for: Mountains, River and Glacier

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Jeep/4×4

Uunartoq Hot Springs, Qaqortoq, Greenland

A small hot spring in Uunartoq Hot Springs, Qaqortoq, Greenland, surrounded by rocks and greenery sits in the foreground, with a white wooden shed on the left. In the background, a body of water with icebergs floats under a clear sky, and mountains rise in the distance.

Greenland isn’t exactly known for warm water, but there’s an exception to every rule, and Uunartoq is just that. Sitting on a remote island near Qaqortoq, in South Greenland, these natural hot springs stay at a toasty 98-100°F all year round, even when there’s ice floating past in the fjord. There’s no fancy spa setup here, just steaming pools that make all your pre-wedding jitters float away and the wild Arctic scenery. Getting here involves a boat ride through iceberg-studded waters, but once you sink into the warmth, it’s the easiest yes ever.

Best for: Mountains, Island, Icebergs, Coast and Hot Springs

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating

Valley of Flowers, Kulusuk, Greenland

A vibrant landscape features a vast field of purple wildflowers in the foreground. A stream cuts through the flowers, leading towards rugged, snow-capped mountains under a partly cloudy sky in the background. A glacier descends from the mountains in Valley of Flowers, Kulusuk, Greenland.

The name doesn’t lie – this little slice of Greenland is a riot of color during the Arctic summer. Tucked in the mountains near the town of Taiilaq, the Valley of Flowers swaps the icy tundra look for bright purple, yellow, and pink wildflowers, all bursting to life under the midnight sun. The hiking here is unreal, with rolling green hills, hidden waterfalls, and fjord views that stretch forever. It’s a short but steep trek from town, and once you’re there, you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into Greenland’s best-kept secret. I can’t imagine a better backdrop for an elopement!

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking

Eternity Fjord, Greenland

A tranquil scene of a sailboat anchored on a calm lake under a bright full moon in Eternity Fjord, Greenland. The surrounding mountains create a silhouette against the night sky, which is dotted with stars. The moonlight reflects softly on the water's surface.

Eternity Fjord (Evighedsfjorden) feels like it was designed to make people feel small. The cliffs here are so steep that they look like they’re folding in on themselves, while glaciers creep down from the peaks, feeding icebergs into the fjord below. Waterfalls drop from impossible heights, sending mist swirling into the air. It’s remote even by Greenland standards, with no roads and no towns – just raw, Arctic wilderness. Boat trips will take you winding through the icebergs of the narrow fjord, but hiking into the surrounding mountains takes it to another level. Seriously, you won’t be able to get over the views here!

Best for: Coast, Waterfalls, Icebergs, Glacier and Mountains

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating

Eqi Glacier, Greenland

A scenic view of the Eqi Glacier in Greenland with a vast, turquoise body of water in the foreground. A small, red cabin with solar panels is nestled on rocky terrain, while mountains and a partly cloudy sky create a dramatic backdrop.

Sitting about 80km north of Ilulissat, Eqi Glacier is famous for actively calving, meaning giant chunks of ice crack off, crash into the fjord, and send waves rolling across the water. Some of these icebergs are the size of buildings, and when they break free, the sound is unreal. Boat trips take you close enough to hear the ice groaning and splitting (trust me, it’s LOUD), but the best move is staying overnight in one of the remote lodges nearby and waking up to the sound of ice crashing into the sea.

Best for: Coast, Icebergs and Glaciers!

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating, ATV

Tasermiut Fjord, Greenland

Green tents are set up on a grassy plain with large rocks in the foreground. In the background, a massive rocky mountain with sheer cliffs rises under a partly cloudy sky. Sparse vegetation covers the landscape, creating a rugged, remote setting in Tasermiut Fjord, Greenland.

Tasermiut Fjord is Greenland’s answer to Patagonia, a 43-mile stretch of deep blue water framed by some of the most dramatic rock faces on Earth. Climbers head here for Ketil and Ulamertorsuaq, two granite giants that shoot straight out of the fjord like natural skyscrapers, but they’re just as gorgeous to gawp at from the safety of the ground. These cliffs are so high they block the sun in places. The hiking here is, of course, out-of-this-world, with trails that wind past rushing rivers, glaciers, and secret valleys, while natural hot springs sit tucked beneath the peaks. I can’t think of a more unique place to elope!

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating, Camping and Rock Climbing

Disko Island, Greenland

A bride playfully approaches a groom from behind on rocky terrain with icebergs floating in the water in the background. She wears a long white dress and veil; he is in a black suit. The scene is set in a misty, cold environment.

Towering volcanic cliffs, black sand beaches, and a glacier right next to the ocean are just a few things that give this place a totally different vibe from the rest of Greenland. The main town, Qeqertarsuaq, is tiny but packed with character, and it’s one of the best places in the country to see humpback whales feeding close to shore. If hiking is your idea of heaven, the options here are unreal, with options to trek through basalt rock fields, past waterfalls, or up to the Lyngmark Glacier, where you can ride a dog sled even in summer.

Best for: Mountains, Coast, Glacier, Icebergs and Island

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating

Sermeq Kujalleq Glacier, Greenland

An aerial view of a glacier, showcasing its rugged, icy surface with deep crevices and jagged peaks. The glacier appears predominantly white with light blue tints and patches of dirt, illustrating the natural textures of the ice formation.

Some places just hit different from the air, and Sermeq Kujalleq Glacier is one of them. This is one of the fastest-moving and most productive in the world, pumping out more ice into the ocean than almost any other. From a helicopter, the scale is ridiculous. You’ll fly over a frozen highway of crevasses, jagged ice towers, and massive chunks breaking off into the Ilulissat Icefjord below before landing on a rock island in the glacier. Plus, if you’re lucky, you might even spot an iceberg calving in real time. Seeing this place from the sky is a once-in-a-lifetime, perfect for an elopement like no other.

Best for: Glacier

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Helicopter

Prince Christian Sound, Greenland

A serene landscape of a wide fjord with calm turquoise water, surrounded by snow-capped mountains in Prince Christian Sound, Greenland. A glacier is visible in the distance beneath a blue sky with scattered clouds. Floating ice pieces can be seen on the water's surface.

This 60-mile-long fjord is straight-up wow-worthy. Mountains shoot straight up from the water, glaciers spill down the cliffs, and icebergs the size of buildings casually float past. Seals love to lounge on the ice, and the few tiny villages along the way are so remote they make Nuuk look like New York City. The best way to explore is, obviously, by boat, weaving through the maze of ice and rock while waterfalls crash straight into the sea. It’s hands down one of the most jaw-dropping routes in the Arctic, and that’s really saying something!

Best for: Mountains, Canyon, River, Glaciers, Icebergs, Waterfalls

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating

Scoresby Sund, Greenland

A large iceberg with an arch rising from calm blue waters under a partly cloudy sky in Scoresby Sund, Greenland. Distant mountains are visible in the background.

Scoresby Sund is the largest fjord system in the world, and yep, it’s as gorgeous as it sounds. Towering cliffs, iceberg-stuffed waters, and mountains that look like they belong on another planet are just a few of the treats waiting for you here. Because it’s so remote, most people explore it by expedition ship, weaving through the maze of fjords past glaciers and some of the most isolated settlements in Greenland. Time your visit for late summer to see the wildlife on full display, with musk oxen roaming the tundra, Arctic foxes darting between the rocks, and, if you’re lucky, you might even spot a polar bear!

Best for: Coast, Waterfalls, Glaciers, Icebergs, Mountains

My favorite activities to do here: Hiking, Boating

Tiniteqilaaq and Sermilik Icefjord, Greenland

Calm water reflects rocky hills under a clear blue sky at Tiniteqilaaq and Sermilik Icefjord, Greenland. Small icebergs float in the distance, surrounded by rugged, barren rocks. The scene is bathed in soft, warm light, suggesting either early morning or late afternoon.

Tiniteqilaaq (pronounced tin-eh-teek-ee-lack) is tiny, but the views are absolutely massive. Sitting right on the edge of Sermilik Icefjord, this little settlement stares straight out at a sea of towering icebergs drifting down from the Greenland Ice Sheet. This edge-of-the-world kind of place is where to head for pure, blissful quiet, with the only sounds being cracking ice or the occasional splash of a whale surfacing between the bergs. Kayaking here is unreal, and paddling through an ice-scattered fjord surrounded by glaciers and rugged peaks is one of those true bucket list moments.
